9 Willys Paved In Memory Of D-Day of Morotai

Morotai Island Regency is the name of an island as well as a new definitive district located in the Maluku Islands, Indonesia. As part of the North Maluku province, Morotai Island is one of the northernmost islands in Indonesia, which was inaugurated on 19 October 2008 as a result of the expansion of North Halmahera Regency.

However, behind its natural beauty, Morotai Island is also a historical place that maybe not everyone knows about it. Where, the island with an area of 2,337.15 km² and a population of 74,565 people (2020) became the site of the battle Antara

Well, to remember this incident, one of the automotive clubs in Indonesia, namely Willys Owners Indonesia (WOI) held an event titled 'D-Day of Morotai'. An event to remember how historic Morotai Island was, was attended by dozens of WOI members with 9 Willys.

Komjen Pol (Ret.) Nanan Soekarna, WOI coach said, we have an obsession to attend the D-Day of Normandy event which is always held on June 16 to commemorate the Allied attack on Germany in Normandy.

“That was the beginning of WOI's goal to come to Morotai Island. Because according to the plan, our arrival to the event will not only carry the name of WOI but the entire Indonesian nation," said Nanan.

However, before attending Normandy, WOI took the time to visit Morotai Island. Because according to Nanan, Morotai Island also has a similar event, namely D-Day of Morotai which is part of the Pacific War.

"Not commemorating the attack of General Douglas MacArthur's troops against the Japanese army. However, we want to inform all Indonesian people and even the world, that in Morotai this is the beginning of the end of World War II in the Pacific," said Nanan.

Meanwhile, Bayuaji Yudha Prajas, Chairman of the D-Day of Morotai Committee expressed his gratitude to all the D-Day of Morotai participants and also the WOI members who have participated in making this event a success.

“I am very happy to be able to directly visit Morotai Island which has a long history as a place of agreement to end World War II in the Pacific. Hopefully, with this D-Day of Morotai, we can all take the essence of the events that have occurred on Morotai Island," concluded Bayu.

Besides having a long history, Morotai Island also has many tourist attractions that are worth visiting, from nature tourism, beach tourism, snorkeling, to diving.
