Landslide Tragedy Hits C Mining Area in Gunung Kuda Cirebon

The death toll from the landslide at the Gunung Kuda C Quarry Mine, Cipanas Village, Dukupuntang District, Cirebon, West Java on Friday (30/5) has increased. The incident that occurred at 10:00 WIB resulted in 10 mine workers being reported dead, from the previous 5 people recorded.


Based on the BNPB press release quoted on Friday (30/5/2025), of the 10 victims who died, 2 of them are still in the identification process. In addition, 6 people were injured and immediately received medical treatment at the Sumber Hurip Hospital and the nearest Health Center.

The temporary rapid assessment also noted that 3 excavator heavy equipment units and 6 trucks were buried by the landslide. Visual monitoring in the field, the weather conditions were sunny and the evacuation process was still ongoing.

BPBD and related elements are still conducting search and rescue operations. Joint personnel from the TNI, Polri and Basarnas as well as support from local residents assisted in the emergency operation. Today's search operation was stopped at 17:00 WIB and will be continued tomorrow.

BNPB appealed to joint personnel and residents to be careful in conducting operations in the field, especially regarding the potential for further landslides. It is hoped that in this search operation, safety will be prioritized and attention to the surrounding natural conditions.

"If it rains for more than an hour, it is advisable to carry out independent evacuation to a safer place for a while," appealed BNPB.

The West Java Provincial Government has revoked the management permit for the Galian C mine in Gunung Kuda, Cipanas Village, Dukuh Puntang District, Cirebon Regency, following a landslide tragedy that killed more than 14 people and injured several others.

The mine, which is managed by the Al-Azhariyah Islamic Boarding School Cooperative, was officially closed as a form of administrative sanction for negligence in managing the mine.

The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, stated that this decision was a firm step to protect public safety and prevent similar tragedies from recurring.

This decision was taken as a form of responsibility. Public safety must be the top priority. "We can no longer tolerate mine management that ignores safety standards," Dedi emphasized in a video uploaded on social media, Friday (30/5/2025) night.
