Bus-Truck Crash on Indian Highway

New Delhi - According to officials, a bus crashed with a vehicle on a highway in central India, killing at least 15 passengers.


According to authorities, at least 40 additional individuals were hurt in the accident late Friday in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district.

According to police officer Navneet Bhasin, the bus was carrying at least 60 passengers when it crashed with a stalled vehicle that had just collided with another truck on the highway.

According to Bhasin, the majority of the passengers were laborers returning to their homes in the adjacent northern state of Uttar Pradesh to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

The injured were sent to the hospital for treatment.

President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India also tweeted their sympathies on Saturday.

India has of of the world's highest road fatality rates, with hundreds of thousands of people killed and wounded each year. The majority of accidents are the result of careless driving, badly maintained roads, and older automobiles.

The surname of police officer Navneet has been changed to Bhasin, not Kumar, in this version.
