Heavy Equipment Cleans Aceh Tamiang
Aceh Tamiang - The post-flash flood recovery process in Aceh Tamiang continues to show positive progress. Heavy equipment is still being deployed to clear mud from the city's main roads.
Observations in the field on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) showed heavy equipment with iron wheels moving through the thick mud. Rows of shophouses and houses remained deserted, but movement was beginning to be observed.
Residents began to traverse the cleared paths, using vehicles and on foot. This indicates that community activities are slowly returning.
As the roads are cleared, economic activity in several areas is beginning to recover. Electricity has been restored in the area since last weekend.
At Sungai Liput Market, music can be heard from loudspeakers, indicating that electricity has been restored.
Buying and selling activities at the market are starting to pick up, although not yet completely normal. Retailers of staple foods, vegetables, and even fuel are starting to set up shop.
Aceh Tamiang was one of the areas worst affected by the flash floods last November. The disaster damaged roads, cut off electricity, and inundated thousands of homes.
A total of 439 schools were affected by the flash floods. Tens of thousands of homes were also damaged.
Synergy between road cleaning and restoring public facilities is key to recovery. The government hopes that life for the people of Aceh Tamiang will soon return to normal.
