48 Motorcycles Confiscated for Illegal Racing on the Trunojoyo Airport Route

Sumenep - The illegal street racing that had been troubling residents along the route to Trunojoyo Airport has finally been shut down by the authorities. The Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the Sumenep Police Resort took direct action by conducting intensive patrols and enforcement on Sunday afternoon (April 19, 2026).

The operation, which was carried out around 4:00 PM WIB on Raya Kacongan Village Road, Kota District, was a swift response to long-standing public complaints about the rampant illegal racing in the area.

It was not just a routine patrol. A joint team consisting of personnel from Satlantas, the Kota Police Sector, the Turjagwali Unit, and Patko 14.0 officers was deployed to sweep through high-risk locations. As a result, 48 motorcycles were immediately secured.

The majority of the seized vehicles were found to be non-compliant with technical specifications, ranging from the use of loud "brong" exhausts to extreme modifications that endanger safety.

Sumenep Police Chief, AKBP Anang Hardiyanto, emphasized that his side will not tolerate illegal street racing, which has the potential to cause accidents and even fatalities.

“This is not merely a traffic violation, but a real threat to public safety. We are taking firm action, but we remain humane,” he asserted.

He also reminded that the role of parents is crucial in preventing children from getting involved in such risky activities.

“We urge families to supervise their children. Don’t let our kids become pointless victims on the road,” he added.

Meanwhile, Traffic Unit Chief AKP Beny Kuncoro assured that similar enforcement operations will not stop here. High-risk routes in Sumenep will continue to be monitored on a regular basis.

This firm action also serves as a strong warning to illegal racers: public roads are not a venue for speed contests. The police affirmed that anyone who dares to violate the rules will face legal action.

Until the operation ended, the situation at the location remained safe and conducive. However, the authorities stressed that surveillance will continue to be tightened to ensure the safety of all road users.
