Indonesian Mining Contractor Buys Fleet of Sany SE588 Electric Trucks from China

One of Indonesia’s leading mining contractors, PT Saptaindra Sejati, has officially strengthened its operational fleet by purchasing 15 units of Sany SE588 heavy-duty electric trucks.

To celebrate this strategic partnership, Sany held a grand handover ceremony directly at the Sany Intelligent Truck Industrial Park in Changsha, Hunan Province, China.

This large-scale purchase was not without reason. Well before deciding to add these 15 new units, Saptaindra Sejati had already been field-testing two Sany SE588 electric trucks at its Indonesian mining sites since the end of 2025.

During the several months of testing, the two China-made trucks were immediately subjected to extreme heavy-duty operations, hauling a Gross Combined Weight (GCW) of up to 220 tons.

In the trials, the performance of these electric trucks was deemed highly satisfactory. Not only were they able to handle the complex and challenging conditions typical of mining operations, but they also demonstrated exceptional reliability and durability under Indonesia’s climate.

This satisfaction with the test results solidified Saptaindra Sejati’s commitment to a much larger long-term procurement plan, targeting nearly 100 units of electric trucks in the future.

The toughness of the Sany SE588 in mining terrain is supported by its powerful technical specifications. Sany produces the truck in two robust variants:

  • The Composite version, with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 80 tons and a curb weight ranging from 12.6 to 13.6 tons.
  • The Super version, the largest electric vehicle in its class, capable of handling a GVW of up to 120 tons and a curb weight of 14.3 to 14.6 tons.

Both variants are equipped with a single centrally mounted electric motor delivering a peak power output of 650 kW (equivalent to approximately 652 hp or 480 kW in conventional terms) and a massive torque of up to 2,800 Nm.

Thanks to this combination of enormous power and torque, the electric truck is claimed to easily conquer extreme uphill mining routes with gradients of up to 27%.

Power delivery is managed through a 6-forward and 1-reverse speed automated manual transmission to ensure optimal power transfer to the wheels when carrying heavy loads.

The power supply system is a major highlight, featuring a massive 588 kWh battery pack with a service life of up to 2 million kWh and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

On a full charge, the Sany SE588 is claimed to achieve an operational range of up to 445 km. Notably, the new battery is designed to be 30% lighter than its predecessor.

As a result of the lighter battery weight, the truck delivers significantly better energy efficiency, with operational cost savings of up to 70% compared to fossil fuel trucks.

Uniquely, to support dynamic and near-continuous mining operations, the Sany SE588 heavy-duty electric truck offers two highly flexible charging solutions:

  1. Dual-gun DC fast charging technology, which can charge the battery from 20% to 80% in approximately 55 minutes.
  2. Battery swapping system, an advanced innovation that allows the entire massive battery pack behind the cab to be removed and replaced with a fully charged unit in just 5 minutes.

Commenting on the successful fulfillment of the Indonesian order, Lincoln Liang, Director of Sany Group and Chairman of Sany Truck, expressed appreciation and optimism about the collaboration.

“Amid the backdrop of global energy transition and increasingly close cooperation between China and Indonesia, Sany is committed to leveraging all the advantages of its industrial chain,” he stated on Thursday (21/5/2026).

Through its leading smart manufacturing capabilities in new energy, Sany is ready to join hands with Saptaindra Sejati to set a global benchmark for zero-carbon mining operations.
