Expedition truck catches fire on the Pejagan-Pemalang toll road, see the chronology

A fire occurred in an expedition truck at KM 306 of the Pejagan-Pemalang toll road on Sunday (23/6) at around 18.00 WIB. The truck carries various packages of goods.

Pemalang Police Chief, AKBP Yovan Fatika Handhiska Aprilaya, stated that the police were working with the Pemalang Regency Fire Department and the Pejagan-Pemalang toll road manager to extinguish the fire that engulfed the expedition truck.

"Currently, we are temporarily closing traffic flow from Jakarta to Semarang while the blackout process is taking place," he said, as quoted by ANTARA on Monday (24/6/2024).

Chronology of Events

According to the Police Chief's statement, the expedition truck with plate number L 9910 UW driven by Moch Cholil (44), a resident of Pasuruan, East Java, initially emitted smoke from the side and rear of the truck.

The driver then pulled the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and turned off the engine to check the source of the smoke.

"After turning off the engine, the driver ordered his technician to check the radiator, engine and light cables. The inspection results showed that the truck was in normal condition," he explained.

However, when the driver and maid checked the back of the truck and opened the package seal, they found smoke coming from a pile of packages in the truck.

"After opening the rear seal, they found smoke coming from a pile of packages at the back of the truck. They immediately opened the side door of the truck to get a light fire extinguisher (APAR), but the fire had started to grow and burned all the packages," continued the Police Chief.

Police Handling

The fire burned all the contents of the package in the truck box. As a handling measure, the police carried out traffic engineering to divert traffic from Jakarta to Semarang during the blackout and evacuation process.

"There were no casualties in this incident," he added.

The fire brigade team together with the police worked hard to extinguish the fire and evacuate the truck from the scene. The Pejagan-Pemalang toll road manager also helped ensure that traffic flow remained safe and orderly during the process.
