KAI Group Extends Jabodetabek LRT and Commuter Line Operations
Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is extending the operating hours of its urban transportation services on New Year's Eve. The company is focusing on improving safety and reliability of its facilities to welcome the New Year 2026.
The Greater Jakarta LRT (Jabodebek) and Commuter Line (KAI) services in the Jakarta area will operate longer on Wednesday (December 31, 2025). This strategic move aims to facilitate the mobility needs of the wider community celebrating New Year's Eve.
"KAI Group ensures that all facilities, infrastructure, and human resources are ready for operation through a series of multi-layered inspections, tests, and supervision to ensure smooth public mobility at the end of the year," said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications Anne Purba in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (December 30, 2025).
The Greater Jakarta LRT is ready to serve passengers until 1:44 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Thursday (January 1, 2026). This extended service time is intended to accommodate the return flow of people after New Year's Eve celebrations.
KAI Commuter operates 45 additional trips across Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) until 3:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). This special operating schedule is particularly beneficial for passengers seeking safe public transportation at night.

The company has prepared a total transport capacity of 49,635,448 seats, excluding the Whoosh and Makassar services. This represents an 8.9 percent increase compared to the capacity during the previous holiday period.
This increase in transport capacity was accompanied by adjustments to train frequency to maintain controllable and safe travel. The KAI Group recorded a total frequency of 40,493 trips, a slight increase compared to last year.
"KAI Group will continue to monitor passenger movement dynamics until the peak of the 2026 New Year holiday season. By strengthening safety, operational readiness, and increasing service capacity, KAI Group ensures that public transportation remains the public's primary choice to support mobility, social activities, and economic growth in early 2026," said KAI Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji.
The management announced the readiness of all public transportation modes in Jakarta on Tuesday (December 30, 2025). The public is advised to pay attention to the latest travel schedules, which have been adjusted for comfort during the New Year holiday.
KAI Encourages Passengers to Maintain Cleanliness
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is encouraging customers to actively participate in maintaining the cleanliness of stations and trains. This appeal is issued in light of the high public mobility during holiday transportation period.
KAI recorded that holiday transportation ticket sales had reached more than 3.6 million as of Tuesday (December 30, 2025). This high figure demonstrates the public's strong enthusiasm for using train transportation during the holiday season.
"KAI ensures cleanliness through the staff and facilities provided. At the same time, we encourage customers to participate in maintaining the station and train environment. This collaboration is important to ensure public spaces remain comfortable for everyone to use," said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications Anne Purba in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The management is providing separate trash bins and free drinking water facilities at 51 long-distance train stations. These concrete steps are part of the company's ongoing efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastics at stations.
The management has deployed thousands of additional staff specifically to ensure the cleanliness of facilities during the year-end holiday transportation period. A total of 2,483 additional cleaning staff were deployed to support smooth service operations until January 4, 2026.
"As of December 30, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), discounted economy class commercial train ticket sales had reached 1,273,874 tickets, or 85 percent of the total 1,509,080 seats available. Discounted ticket availability can be checked through the Access by KAI application," said KAI Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji.
Daily train passenger numbers peaked at 269,723 on December 28, 2025. Passengers crowded popular departure stations such as Pasarsenen Station, Gambir Station, Yogyakarta Station, and Surabaya Pasar Turi Station.
Ticket sales data shows that long-distance train reservations have exceeded three million tickets. This number of reservations exceeds the available seating capacity, which is 109 percent of the total.
KAI Services also deployed dozens of dedicated personnel to campaign for a zero-waste holiday at various major stations. They interact directly with customers as a form of two-way communication about the importance of clean station public spaces.
