KAI Serves 359,000 Customers at the End of the Year
Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) served hundreds of thousands of passengers at the start of the holiday transportation period. Passenger numbers were particularly high during the first two days of the transportation period at all operating stations.
The company recorded 359,616 customers served during the first two days of the Christmas and New Year transportation period. This train service period runs from December 18, 2025, to January 4, 2026.
A total of 157,301 people were recorded using train transportation on December 18, 2025. This number of service users then increased significantly to 202,315 customers on December 19, 2025.
"Customer movement since the start of the holiday transportation period shows a maintained trend. Trains remain the public's choice for intercity and regional travel during the year-end holidays," said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications Anne Purba in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday (12/20/2025).
Total train ticket sales for all journeys have reached 2,108,450. This cumulative data was collected by officials based on sales system monitoring as of Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.
Long-distance train ticket sales dominated the year-end holiday season. KAI sold 1,905,761 long-distance tickets, accounting for 69 percent of total available capacity.
"This high occupancy rate reflects strong public interest in intercity travel by train, supported by schedule certainty, comfort, and service coverage to various destinations," said Anne.
Local train ticket sales also showed a positive figure, reaching 202,689 tickets for various destinations. These local train ticket sales only account for approximately 27.2 percent of total seats.
Pasar Senen Station and Gambir Station were the departure points with the highest number of customers for long-distance services. Yogyakarta Station and Surabaya Gubeng Station also ranked among the stations with the highest passenger volumes.
"KAI urges the public to plan their trips through the Access by KAI app to find suitable schedules and routes during the Christmas and New Year period," said KAI Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji.
KAI is offering a special 30 percent discount on commercial economy class train services. This discounted ticket promotion is effective from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
