Gelora Boat Race 2023, Gelora Beach Becomes a New Icon of Sumbawa Tourism. In Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (Sumbawa), the 2023 Gelora Boat Race finished on Sunday (12/11/2023) afternoon.
This competition has been taking place for the third year at Gelora Beach, Dusun Meno in Rhee Loka Village, Rhee District.
After 17 days, the canoe racing ended with the final competition in each category: Bangcarera Piston 92 and 94 and Local Boat Piston 94.
This event was held to honor the third anniversary of Gelora Beach and the fourth anniversary of the Indonesian People's Wave Party (Gelora).

Interest in the competition continues to increase, with participants from mainland and coastal areas of Sumbawa.
According to the Deputy General Chair of the Gelora Party, Fahri Hamzah, Gelora Beach was originally only used as a place for people to relax and have fun, such as canoe racing or Bangcarera.
However, that continues to change, and Gelora Beach is now a fun and beautiful place for Indonesian families.
In his final speech at the 2023 Gelora Boat Race at Gelora Beach, Sunday, Fahri said, "I will improve this beach so that it becomes one of the best beaches in all of Indonesia and a national tourist destination."
Fahri stated that the Gelora Party wanted to increase the authority of coastal communities such as those in Sumbawa so that they would become a source of pride for their region.
Therefore, it will be a spirit and effort to make Indonesia a new superpower country. According to him, Gelora Beach will be an inspiration for all Indonesian people to return to their identity as a maritime country.
He added, "Believe that Indonesia's future leaders will come from coastal areas, as the Gelora Party has done to raise the dignity and authority of coastal people so that they have the courage to become leaders of Indonesia."
The Deputy Speaker of the DPR from 2014 to 2019 was committed to supporting Sumbawa as a new province so that it could manage its own natural resources and be separate from NTB.
He said, “The first agenda that we are fighting for for the Sumbawa people is the formation of the Sumbawa Island Province. We must have our own province that manages its island and its natural resources so that Sumbawa is uplifted, and does not continue to be poor because it does not have the ability to move."
Fahri stated that the formation of the Sumbawa Island Province would be easy to achieve, especially if Prabowo Subianto was elected as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia in the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres).
He stated that realizing the Sumbawa Island Province would be easy if Prabowo became President. We want to elevate the honor and dignity of the Sumbawa people.
According to Burhanuddin Jafar Salam, Chairman of the Sumbawa Gelora Party DPD, the Gelora Boat Race, which has been going on for three years, aims to promote Bangcarera culture and people's celebrations.
After three years of implementation, we have seen many changes for Sumbawa. Burhanuddin stated that the fourth year of implementation, God willing, will meet again in 2024.
Joyce Letik, Chair of the 2023 Gelora Boat Race Committee, stated that this year's boat race has a total prize of IDR 150 million with the sponsorship of the Deputy General Chair of the Gelora Party, Fahri Hamzah. Apart from that, there are Umrah prizes and Yasuka ship engine door prizes for visitors.
Joyce stated that this canoe race has nothing to do with political events in 2024 because it has been held for three years by the Gelora Party. This is the consistency of the Gelora Party, Pak Fahri Hamzah, in raising Sumbawa Island.
According to Joyce Letik, Chair of the Sumbawa Coastal Wave (GP) Canoe Racing Forum, the Gelora Boat Race has developed into a symbol of Sumbawa tourism.
He said, “I am touched that this canoe racing can now become an icon of Sumbawa. "This is a momentum to advance Sumbawa maritime affairs."
Joyce stated that the Gelora Party had shown itself in supporting the coastal communities of Sumbawa to move forward. This community has not received enough attention, but is now considered to have potential.
He concluded, "The Gelora Party grows and is present with grass roots communities, lower class communities and coastal communities. "That's the strength of the Gelora Party."
