Toyota Unveils Electrified Land Cruiser Se Concept
Ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show.
Toyota has unveiled another electric concept ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show, the electrified Land Cruiser concept dubbed the “Se.”
The Land Cruiser Se reveal follows teasers of a sports car and SUV with an electric powertrain, respectively dubbed the FT-Se and FT-3e. Compared to these, the Land Cruiser Se is a bit more modest, presenting itself in a refined, slightly boxy silhouette.
According to official statements, the Land Cruiser concept’s technical execution differs from its predecessors, primarily because it was designed for city driving rather than off-road adventures.
Toyota shared that the car is particularly quiet and that it also has an impressive torque output for sporty driving – exact details of these characteristics have not yet been provided at the time of writing.
In terms of design, the car's body adopts a monocoque (single-piece frame) structure, which Toyota says can help the car cope with less than ideal roads while still retaining some resemblance to its original purpose and design as a rugged vehicle.
While the exterior design is meant to emphasize the classic Land Cruiser silhouette, there are some noticeable updates, including slightly rounded front and rear ends, a sloping roof, a closed grille, horizontal light bars, and redesigned mirrors.
