Uzbekistan is preparing a successor to the very successful carburetor Chevrolet
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced at a meeting that in 2026, the UzAuto Motors plant in the Khorezm region will begin producing a new car.
The press secretary of the head of state clarified: we are talking about the "Damas plant" - they plan to produce affordable and popular 7-seater cars. Investments are estimated at 100 million dollars. Little is known about the successor to the Chevrolet Damas: the car will be seven-seater, and the engine will comply with the Euro-5 eco-standard.
Negotiations with the partner will be completed this year, large-unit assembly will begin in 2026, and full-cycle production with 50 percent localization is expected by 2027. The fate of the Damas microvan and its cargo version Labo is unclear. Chevrolet Damas is one of the few cars that is still produced with a carburetor engine. Under the hood is a three-cylinder 800 cc engine with a power of 38 horsepower. Traction is transmitted to the rear axle through a 5-speed manual.
The body is less than four meters long and has three rows of seats. Demand is growing year after year: in 2024, 102 thousand (+ 14%) Chevrolet Damas were produced in Uzbekistan! In five years, the production of compact vans has almost doubled, and still, demand sometimes exceeds supply.
The secret is simple: the starting price is only 93,156,000 soums (600 thousand rubles). What model will be put on the Damas conveyor is not specified, but it will not be easy to compete with the 40-year-old veteran in terms of price.
