Creativity of Disability Magic Waste to Make Miniature Wooden Truck

Blitar - Hard work and struggle will not deny the results. Moreover, coupled with the power of prayer. As did Purnoaji. Even though he is in a very limited condition because of people with disabilities, this does not make his creativity stagnate. Instead, it made him race and not depend on others.

A simple, semi-traditional house in the area of Jalan Kalasan, Bendogerit Village, Sananwetan District, at first glance looks ordinary. Almost no difference with the house on the right and left. But as he passed by, the sound of a wood-cutting machine slowly rose to his ears.

The source of the sound comes from the production process of a miniature truck made of wood by Purnoaji, a person with a disability.

Just to the right of the house there is a bamboo-walled workshop. The size is not too wide. However, it is quite convenient to work with making miniature trucks in large enough quantities. Wood waste that usually ends up in the fireplace piles up in several corners of the house.

Purnoaji said that there are no obstacles in creating business opportunities even though they are physically limited. In fact, thousands of his miniature trucks have been successfully ordered out of town. This business has been researched since 2015.

“Alhamdulillah, apart from supplying collectors around Bung Karno's Tomb, there are also many interested people from outside the city. They ordered, then we sent, "said the father of two children.

The raw materials used to produce miniatures come from wood waste. The waste bar was obtained by Purnoaji from a partner. Miniature truck toys are excellent. For him who is already skilled, the manufacture is not too complicated. One mini truck unit takes less than a day to work, depending on the weather. Because, it takes sunlight so that the coloring can be maximized. "The sooner it's finished, it depends on the weather conditions," explained the 44-year-old man.

Within a month, he was able to produce hundreds if not thousands of miniatures and other toys. Purnoaji is not alone. In this stage, he is assisted by his wife, Sri Yanuarti, who is in charge of painting the miniatures. The variety of oil paint colors used depends on the buyer's request. In fact, some ordered that the paint be replaced with a sticker. It is affixed to the body of the truck so that it is more quirky. Thanks to a slick cooperation, he was able to reap a net profit of Rp 5 million to Rp 8 million.

“Basic size costs Rp. 50 thousand to Rp. 60 thousand per seed, if the large size is around Rp. 80 thousand to hundreds of thousands per seed. This is the price for collectors,” said this friendly man.

Purnoaji is an inspirational figure for people with disabilities. He who was originally born normal must be willing to lose his right hand. Apparently, there is an event behind this story. Precisely what happened when he was in the second grade of elementary school. While climbing a tree, he fell and broke his arm and had to be amputated.

He realized that living with one hand would be very suffocating. The unstable emotions were also felt when several pairs of eyes glanced at him. However, he slowly came to terms with what had happened. His growing self-confidence has made him diligent in participating in creative economy training since graduating from junior high school.

“After that, I ventured out of my comfort zone. It's not easy, it's even been underestimated. But, I kept going," he explained.

As time went on, he had gotten used to his condition. In fact, the motivation to be creative is getting stronger thanks to the support of his wife and two children. Wood waste, which in the eyes of ordinary people seems worthless, can be used to make a living. He hopes that there will be no discrimination against persons with disabilities or persons with disabilities. Because everyone has the opportunity to be successful. “Only process, effort, and prayer, that I can do. Everyone just enjoy it," he said with a smile.
